Jeykll Hyde #3

Authors note: I decided to write yet another poem about letters to people. In the novel there are many letters going back and forth and I decide to write a poem about a letter. I will use the last word from each sentence and see where I go. I will do the same with doors as well as Satan

Letters

Letters means people can communicate
Communication allows people to listen to other people’s ideas.
Ideas let their mind be free
Freedom makes people do things that are evil
Evil can bring out their dark sides

Doors

Doors lead people on new adventures
Adventures open people to new creativity
Creativity let people be whoever they want.
Wanting things creates evil within the human body
The human body is the most complex structure in the world

Satan

Satan equals evil
Evil equals people who are sinister
Sinister equals Hyde
Hyde equals duality of Jekyll
Jekyll equals the goodness in life
Life equals the pursuit of happiness
Happiness equals people in not so hard times.
Time equals are life; we never know when it’s going to end.
The end equals Jekyll plus Hyde divided by quantity Utterson and Poole squared

Jekyll and Hyde Response #2 - Chap 3-7

Author's Note: As we continue to read Jekyll and Hyde, the story interest level is through the roof. Chapter 7 was the most interesting so far. Near the end of the chapter Utterson and Einfield are talking with Jekyll. When within seconds Jekyll noticed something outside and shut the window and went into his house. I felt that he ran away because when he can’t the sun he turns into Hyde. This inspired to write a poem about night and day.

Night and Day

Daytime illuminates hope to the world
Nighttime is as evil as the underworld
Daytime allows humans to see
Nighttime builds mystery don’t we all agree
Daytime means warmth will fill your soul
Nighttime creates all night rock n’ roll
Daytime means brightness allowing children to play
Nighttime means darkness and children dismay
Daytime produces confidence and security
Nightime produces fear and insecurity
Daytime generates money from all directions
Nightime equals people have thought provoking reflections
Daytime displays awesomeness
Nighttime exhibits creepiness
Through all these words you may just think
Who cares about this lets go and drink
But look carefully at the concrete meaning
And you may just feel like intervening

Jekyll and Hyde Response Chapter 1-3

Authors note: I am reading a story called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The story just confuses me at every aspect. Therefore I am writing a creative piece reflecting on what makes this story so confusing. During chapter three Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Utterson talk about wills. This inspires me to write about wills.

This story makes my mind go blank.
Jekyll throws a party with his cronies.
One of his cronies is Utterson.
Utterson stays a little longer.
Longer he stays to meet with Jekyll.
Few words go by, but one strikes my head.
A Will. Who talks about wills.
Wills are meant for people on deathbeds
Wills are meant for the elderly
Wills are meant for suicidal people.
But why oh why would Jekyll talk about wills.
This makes my mind go blank.
Wills are not meant for people in good health.
Wills are not meant for doctors.
Wills are not meant for Jekyll.
People who are accident-prone have wills.
People with suicide written all over them have wills
People on deathbeds have wills.
Yet, Jekyll and Utterson talk about wills.
This completely blanks out my brain.
It doesn't make sense.
They want to kill Hyde, but talk about wills.
They want to destroy Hyde, but talk about wills.
They want to eliminate Hyde, but talk about wills
Yet at the end Jekyll talks out of context.
I have really great interest in poor Hyde.
What? Who says that after you want to kill him?
The whole story doesn't make sense.
First he wants to kill him and then he will save him?
Why Jekyll? Why?
After mushing with our minds completely the lawyer made a wacky statement.
I can’t pretend that I shall ever like him.
Just make up your mind.
Save him or kill him.
Such a decision shouldn’t be hard
Such a decision should be like snapping your finger
Such a decision should not be thought over.
How the task in fulfilled would be longer but not this
This insane story tears apart my mind.
After all of this talk back and forth, Utterson blows your mind.
He says I promise.
Promise WHAT???
Kill him or not.
It just doesn’t make sense at all.
This story rips apart every single part of your brain.
This story twists your mind like a swirl from Costco.
This story just ruins your thought process for life.

To Build a Fire

Author's Note: Once again we read another story about defense mechanisms. This one was called To Build a Fire.

Intelligence: Are we truly gaining it?
The common man’s intelligence about basic survival in the wilderness is dwindling rapidly. When we were in our primitive form as cavemen, humans gained enormous amounts of experience on how to live on nothing but the natural resources around us; but, as time kept moving forward, that inner instinct vanished into thin air. Whether it is a small skill such as building a fire out of wood or hunting downs animals for food, the natural instinct has left us, and now we just google it on our smart phones. Through the short story, “To Build a Fire,” the author, Jack London, proves that we may be gaining knowledge; but those key aspects in life that leads us down the yellow brick road vanish through ignorance, and could lead humans to certain death.
Using diction and repetition, Jack London illustrates a man who notices death was lurking until moments away from his deathbed. The man for the past few hours has been trying to find a group of people with his “loyal” dog. In order to survive he builds a fire; however, suddenly he realizes that fact that the journey will be impossible for him. The author narrates, “A certain fear of death, dull and oppressive, came to him. This fear quickly became poignant as he realized that it was no longer a mere matter of freezing his fingers and toes, or of losing his hands and feet, but that it was a matter of life and death with the chances against him”The author repeats the concept of death with powerful diction to key to the readers: An ignorant person is not a knowledgeable person. Even if the man makes it to this camp where all the other man are, how does he know his hands will ever function again. Ignorance. It’s as simple as that. The man’s ignorance the whole trip is at point where any step could be his last. If a sensible man was in the same situation he wouldn’t ignore the fact that the trip will be near to impossible to make on one trip and that he should shelter for the night and continue on the next day. Not this man, his overly confident ego mixed with his ignorance leads him to certain death. If just once, he thought about the consequences, the chance of his survival would just sky rocket. In the end, the key aspects in life that leads everyone down their own yellow brick roads, was ignored by the man in the short story “To Build a Fire” by Jack London; therefore, a happy ending would be like someone trying to count the stars … impossible.

An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge

Authors Note: In order to continue our knowledge on defense mechanism we read the short story An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge. Then we had to right a response to it.
What Truly Matters in Life?
One always wonders why a person does what he does. For example in the short story, “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” in which the author, Ambrose Bierce, writes a story about a man representative of humanity. This man from a reader’s point of view was escaping death, but actually is experiencing a flashback in the final moments of life. Bierce creates an illusion in the writing to convey the message to the world that it is no matter what you’re doing in life; you should always care about what really is necessary in life, because later on you may not be living to cherish those precious moments.
Using illusions in writing allows the reader to think one thought but it’s truly a whole other ball game. Peyton Farquhar, a plantation owner in North Alabama, is about to be hang for his “misdeeds”. Even though, through the eyes of the readers it seems that he has developed a plan to escape and is near the final stages of his escape, he truly is about to die and get hanged. The author illustrates, “By nightfall he was fatigued, footsore, famishing. The thought of his wife and children urged him on. At last he found a road which led him in what he knows was the right direction”. After walking what he thinks is the right path for a while, he is in front of his house looking at his wife . He about to ran up and hug his wife, but everything goes down the drain. The author narrates, “As he is about to clasp her, he feels a stunning blow upon the back of the neck; a blinding white light blazes all about him, with a sound like the shock of a cannon-then all is darkness and silence. Peyton Farquhar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently from side to side beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek Bridge” (198). The whole story the reader actually thinks Peyton has escaped from the soldiers and is running for his life when he finally reaches home. No; instead, he is just having a bunch of flashback which to the readers seems as events occurring in the present. Afterwards, it reminds the readers that even though you may be dying you should always remember about your loved ones; because, you will not be there always to enjoy those precious moment with them. In Peyton’s case, he thinks about a flashback, about what truly matter to him, his family. In the end, in the short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” , Ambrose Bierce, the author, utilizes illusions throughout the story to persuade the readers that no matter what not matter what a person maybe doing, one should make sure that they are always is there to cherish those precious moments, because they only happen once in a lifetime.

Short Story - KBF

Author's Note: After we learned about defense mechanisms we read three stories about people who utilized different mechanisms in there life. To conclude the whole project we were asked to create short story with a defense mechanism in it. With this KBF came to life.

The Idea

It was a brisk morning in the city of Green Bay. The snow was falling at just the right pace to make sure the ground always remained with that perfect layer of snow. Even when the local traffic went by, their tracks vanished to let an untouched blanket of snow remain. Sitting in a brand new 2012 Audi R8 Spyder were two best friends, Bailey and Tyler. Their 18th birthdays were today and they both had the same plan; get a lottery ticket that could win them lifetime tickets to the Super Bowl. Bailey and Tyler’s families were loaded with money and were willing to send them to the every single Super Bowl; however, the boys didn’t like the easy way out.
As Bailey started his brand new car, all 560 horses roared to life. While the powerful V-10 sent the blood coursing through his veins, sweat began to form on Bailey’s hands as each finger touched the heated, leather steering wheel.
They rerouted their journey to the local Mobil gas station to make sure they pass Lambeau Field, because they believed that it would give them luck, when trying to win the lottery ticket that could win them a trip to every single Super Bowl in their lifetime. They were about to pass Lambeau, when they came to a screeching halt.
They couldn’t believe their eyes. Brett Favre was in town signing autographs. The boys hated Brett with the same intensity that girls love Taylor Lautner (Jacob!), boys hate Justin Bieber, and America hated Osama Bin Laden.
Bailey screamed, “WE’RE KILLING BRETT FAVRE!!!”
Tyler, puzzled as always, screamed, “YES! But how?”
“MWAHAHAH! I thought you’d never ask. We are going to have a blood thirsty Viking riding a chariot being pulled by a bear and a lion. Then…then, to humiliate him even more we will tie him on the goal post in a peace sign shape wearing an Aaron Rodger jersey and the famous CHEESEHEAD! ”
“WH… oooh, the NFC North Division, main rivals, gotcha. Nice idea; LET”S F’IN KILL BRETT FARVE!!!”
“That traitor messed with the wrong guys.”

The Killing

The killing started out with the boys luring Brett Favre to the Practice Field across the street. There the boys have bought a Viking, Lion, and Bear to do the killing. Afterwards, they would deny killing Brett Favre. In their mind they felt that theoretically the Bear, Lion, and Viking actually killed Brett Favre, and they didn’t actually kill him with their hands. So if they denied whatever they were asked their life would become as smooth as silk. For visual proof they will have a video recording. Henceforth their yellow brick road had deny written all over it. After the brainstorming they began plan “KBF” aka Kill Brett Favre.
“Hey Brett. We are your BIGGEST fans and were wondering if you could come over and see our football team play in the practice field” said Bailey.
Tyler added “Yeah that would be AMAZING”!
Brett thought for a bit and concluded, “It should be a short trip, why not”.
Tyler and Bailey smiled at each other and yelled, “THANK YOU SO MUCH”.
After Brett Favre meet and autographed with the last 13 people in line, he began to walk with the boys. A sudden thought came to Bailey’s mind.
Bailey saw that Favre on the phone and whispered, “We forgot that we have to cut Brett to let blood go out; therefore, the bear and lion can sniff it and always know where he is”.
Tyler whispered, “Don’t worry already have that covered”. He then nodded to Brett’s hand. Drip Drip Drip … Bailey noticed the small river of blood oozing out of Brett’s middle finger. The best part was Favre didn’t notice it. Bailey smiled at Tyler and went on walking with infamous quarterback.
The next step of the plan began when they were about to enter the field. They strategically placed cameras throughout the field so they could watch the killing from the outside. With this, they could place the Cheesehead on Brett and push him into the killing area and let their little evil selves sit outside and peacefully watching the gruesome event.
The moment before they entered the doors, Tyler put on the Cheesehead. Then with a sense of victory they both said, “Goodbye M*****F*****” and pushed him to his doom. The boys ran at full speed to the hideout and watched KBF come to life.
Brett stood there in the center of the spotlight without a clue of what is going on. A rumbling came from the corner of the field as well as a mysterious battle cry. One thing came to his mind. RUN! At full speed he ran into the blackness hoping for the exit only to come face to face with a lion and bear.
The Viking shouted, “ATTACK!!!” In unison, the bear and lion clawed at Brett’s skin. Flesh came off him, like a person cutting into butter with a knife. Pieces were thrown everywhere. As every moment passed Brett became smaller and smaller. The Viking shouted “Stop”. The bear and lion stopped only to leave a fleshless Brett standing. The body fell apart; his arms shriveled and fell downward, the eyes fell down from the head of the bloody body. The Viking stepped off his chariot, rumbling the ground with every step. As he stepped in front of the body of what once was Brett Favre, he took out his axe and with a mighty swing cut him right in half. Blood squirted everywhere. This got the lion n’ bear really hyped, like 10 year old girls at a Selena Gomez concert. The Viking, full of himself, got onto his chariot, and whispered in the bear n’ lion’s ear, “eat”.
At once the bear n’ lion devoured Brett Favre piece by piece. With every waning second, another part of his body vanished into the mouth of the beasts. Within a mere minute there was no sign of the infamous traitor, other then the blood scattered throughout the green and white field. The guys flicked the light three times to give the signal for the Viking to stop. The magnificent, blood stained chariot went off into the darkness never to be found again.

The Aftermath

They felt the rush in their body and made their aftermath plans before proceeding. Also, after the boys realized they forgot multiple steps in the killing, they concluded this was better than they planned. Bailey immediately went into denial mode and took out all the cameras. Tyler ran to the front and to make sure no one was looking in the process. The next thirteen minutes was a big blur for the boys: the taking out of the equipment, the destruction of the secret hideout and the silent ride home. All of this seemed to make Tyler’s brain distorted. Gruesome, bloody pictures seemed to go through his mind downward through every part of his body and soul. Additionally denial just wasn’t in his system, the truth felt right to him. He finally broke the silence.
With guilt in every word he said, “Did we do the right thing?”
Bailey replied, “Of course, we killed our worst enemy”
“But did we really do the RIGHT thing?”
“Don’t worry about it just deny, deny, deny and “AAL izz Well” (3 Idiots)”
“I don’t know if I could tell a lie for the rest of my life, eventually the truth will come out. You know this about me Bailey.”
“I forgot … fine. Let’s make this simple.”
“Ho…” Before Tyler could even finish his sentence Bailey took out a gun, and took one shot. Smack dab in the middle of Tyler’s forehead was a big gauging hole with blood pouring out like Niagara Falls. Bailey made sure no one was looking and threw Tyler’s body on the street for the citizens of Green Bay to see an innocent boy killed by a psychopathic maniac on the run.

Random Post #7

The next two weeks of school we be somewhat of torture. I have so many tests. In science I have a Chemistry Test. Then there's social studies, with the Civil War Test. After that I have two District Assessments in Math and French. AHHHHHHH! To many tests. At least non of the test are on the same day. I shall keep you updated on the test once I finished all of them. So look into the next blog post to probabely find out how I did.

The Giver

Again, I know it may be a little late but I thought my blog readers want to see my Giver Response.

It is true that The Giver is a very hard novel to turn into a theatrical performance. There were many scene that truly are very hard. One scene in particular would be the apple scene. In the play they are pretending to throwing a fake apple across the stage. Then when Jonas was just about to catch the apple he sees something and the fake, imaginative apple falls down and turn into imaginative apple sauce. That was really cheesy. Personally it would have been much better if they used a projector. The projector would help enhance the moment because it could actually project the apple turning into the apple sauce or a matter of fact the color red. He other thing that made the play confusing was the changing of character. The one person that really confused me was the red headed girl who was Lily and Fiona. You almost never knew if she was Lily or Fiona. All they needed to do was get another person to act as Fiona and it would have been fine. In conclusion, if they used more item or props during play or even used more people the play would have been stupendous.

Jurassic Park

I know it is been a long time since I did the Jurassic Park responses, but I thought you may want to see what I wrote about Jurassic Park. Here are the questions I answered.

1. How did the music contribute to the mood and suspense of the story?

Music may not seem important in the story but it is a key in scaring the ants out of your pants. The music really dramatizes the move so that it creates a more of a tenser scene when it is starting to get ugly. Also it helps creates more suspense. One example of this is whenever the T-Rex is coming there is a booming sound in the background foreshadowing the event of a major attack. Therefore without music and suspense in the movie the movie would be an EPIC FAIL.

2. If you believe the story is a tragedy, then explain Dennis Nedry’s tragic flaw and the tragic fall that follows because of it.

Dennis Nedry, an overweight nerd about computer has a major tragic flaw. His tragic flaw is his overconfidence. His overconfidence pretty much leads him to his tragic fall which is dying. You may be asking why over confidence is his tragic flaw just think about it. He thinks that with ease he can hack the system, take the egg supplies, and run away. News flash Dennis this is Jurassic Park, and you just off the system that keeps you safe, and you want to just drive away. If I could just say one thing, you are plain old dumb. In conclusion, the flaw that Dennis has which is overconfidence, leads him to his death against a raptor, which he let in to his path by turning off the security system.

1. During the tour of the facility, Ian Malcolm comments that “Life finds a way.” What does he mean? How does this foreshadow events that occur later?

Life finds a way, might be a simple saying but actually comes through in the movie. To me life finds a way means that the life of that egg will finds its way. This event foreshadows a few main events. One event is when the eggs hatch which happens when water helps make it grow. Therefore life has found its way. Also when they overcome Jurassic Park by going off the island, once again life finds a way. In conclusion, the comment “Life finds a way” by Ian Malcolm is an awesome comment that foreshadows many great events.

This past weeekend I had a party for my birthday that was two weeks back. The people that I invited were Jacob Stern, Bailey Zimmerly, Tyler Stanczak, and Kyle Gloss. First we played Wii for for one hour. Then we got our food, which was Buffalo Wild Wings, Pizza Hut, and a party sub from Jimmy Johns. Even though we were still suppose to play wii, we actually watched TV and stated wrestling. That was pretty strange. The other thing was that their was a tornado watch on that day. The rest of that day for me is a really big mystery.

Random Post #5

Once upon a time there was a little kid named Butch Jr. Butch Junior was always getting bullied by his mean old brother Butch Sr. Whenever poor little Butch Junior came how he would always have bruises from his fight with Butch Sr. One day Butch Senior was really upset at Butch Junior that he had to be in a wheel chair for 10 years. After that fight, Butch Senior was so upset that he never bullied anyone again.
